During these lockdown days, many more people are gardening. Partly because we have ‘more time’, and also as we can do the beautiful, meaningful things we were putting aside before, as we were ‘too busy’. We use whatever small or big space we have, in a garden or inside on windowsills, to grow plants that are life-giving and beautiful and attract pollinators, which for many plants are essential for further seeds to be produced.
Quiet earthy dreams are coming true.
We can learn so much from nature. And we are part of her. Nature takes time to grow.
My feeling is that, even when the world around us begins to come out of lockdown and whirl again, and even whilst within a regular work routine, we can still choose not to rush around; instead, slow down, and let ourselves live more patiently, more in tune with the rhythm of nature. Pause and breathe and see what is here right now.
In this springtime, I watch the new tiny green seedlings appear; they grow from the many seeds we have planted, starting a few weeks ago. And out on the common land, I see new leaves appear and unfurl magically on the trees, and some blossom in radiance, then petals fall, and for some, berries or fruits emerge.
Every plant has its own unique gift and wisdom. Every plant has its own unique growing timing, which is not exactly predictable, and varies depending on soil condition, space, water, light, even love…
I see people as being like flowers.
Every person also has their own unique awakening timing, which can’t be predicted, and is so variable. And for growth, sometimes we have to slow down and just be. Conversely, rushing around too much causes stress and restricts inner growth and awareness. We can only truly evolve when we are mindful, caring, kind, accepting of ourselves and others, and listen to the wise inner stirrings of the soul. And then we may listen to our own breath, our connection to the source of life. Now we listen to nature’s messages (which are now loud and clear), we listen to the suffering of others, and respond with deep compassion and kindness. This is the beginning of collective awakening.
The greatest wisdom of nature is that life is a mystery. We do not know what will happen. People want to control feelings, situations, circumstances, rather than just allowing life to unfold. It’s ok not to ‘know’ everything. Just being here, being loving and kind, we learn to experience life more deeply.
Let’s make truly living and loving our main purpose, appreciate each other’s inner beauty, and like a beautiful flower, blossom in our own unique way.
